The bask coast

The Rhune, bask mountain, that you can admire from the terrace and wich offers a splendid view on the coast and the Pyrenéés. 5 min from Manalolo, you will find the departure point to walk till the bottom of the Rhune (900m). And if you don’t want to walk, there is the authentic  small train.

Who says Côte Basque (bask coast), says Surf ! On demand we leave your the contacts for the surf schools and material rent. More smooth and to do on quiet water : the Stand-Up Paddle. Gorgious tours to do in the bay of Saint Jean de Luz for everybody.

For the golfers, there is a big choice. Not 5 min from Manalolo you will find the Golf de Chantaco, in Ciboure there is Golf de la Nivelle then you have Biarritz, Arbonne…

Art craft & regional products

Do a day trip to inner bask country on the route du fromage (cheese road) will make you discover the bucolic landscape and you may buy some regional specialities directly at the farms.

At 5min by feed from Manalolo you will find a bask weaving mill that you can visit & shop, and a brewery of bask beer with tasting & shop.

Gastronomy You will find our favorite adresses of restaurants when you arrive (from gastro, semi-gastro, typical, snack at the seaside etc.)

Cities & villages :

The centre of our village Ascain is 2 minutes away by car. You will find all necessary shops there, a nice church, a Fronton-Place with a café from where you can watch the players of pelote basque comfortabely.

Saint Jean de Luz offers a lot of animations during the whole summer. The “toro de fuego” is a really big pleasure for the kids ! The church Louis XIV is really beautiful, don’t miss it ! To find a parking place in Saint Jean de Luz is not easy in summer. A cycle path links the city center to the free parking of Chantaco (2000m from Manalolo) – and a bus does the same.

Biarritz (15min by car) is beautiful and you may discover it by feed. The rocher de la vierge, le vieux port, the “musée de la mer ” for kids, the shops boutiques and galeries.

Guéthary ( 10min by car), charming small fishermen’s village. You can find there the art gallery of the local artist Michel Hacala who did the banister of Manalolo.

Bayonne and its’ cathedral, its’ rivers and slim housefronts, its shops… everything invites to amble. If you are curious to disconver the bask culture, don’t miss the musée basque ! Do not leave Bayonne without having tasted the chocolat de Bayonne in one of the “chocolateries” !

Hendaye offers a nice walk along its bay, starting by the “2 Jumeaux” (2 rocks in the sea). On the “route de la corniche” you will find the Château d’Abbadia, little treasure with a romanesque history – pleasure for the whole family ! Idea for a day trip : Pass the day discovering Hendaye and Abbadie, then take the boat at Hendaye harbour bateau navette to cross the bay till Hondarribia, have some tapas, go up till them Parador and come back by boat before midnight.

San Sebastian enjoy like the spanish people. Shopping, tapas, old town, coffee-terraces… Sea-Museum de la mer for the kids, with glass-tunnel, very impressiv.
